The University of Melbourne Venture Club

We are dedicated to empowering ambitious students and early stage entrepreneurs who possess great vision yet lack market experience and insight. Guided by an investor's perspective, we equip them with a clear and accurate understanding of early stage investment principles, laying a solid foundation for their future entrepreneurial endeavors.

“Finding Meaning Through Gentle Leadership — A Conversation with Nicky Luo”

The Melbourne Venture Club (UMVC) was honoured to host Nicky Luo, former Mayor of City of Monash and the first Chinese-Australian woman to hold the role.

From psychotherapist to public servant, she shared a powerful message about serving others with empathy, listening, and respect — and how these values can bring communities together.

One quote stayed with us:
“No matter how small your voice is, keep speaking and doing what you believe in — because persistence can help someone, and one day society will return that kindness.”

She also spoke about her Chinese heritage and immigrant background, and encouraged international students to take part, connect, and shine — even if they are here for a short time.
